Will Harris and Danny Greenfield were both on target as Moors came from behind to beat play-off chasing Alfreton Town and claim a third successive home win on Tuesday night.
Graeme Lee’s men looked up against it when The Reds took an early lead through Dwayne Wiles’ powerful close-range finish, but they showed their mettle to come roaring back for three points.
Will Harris fired Moors level just before the break and then Danny Greenfield rammed in the winner just before the hour as Lee’s in-form side stretched their unbeaten run to six games.
Moors boss Lee made just one change to his starting eleven as Finley Shrimpton was restored to the line-up at the expense of Matty Dolan who missed out through illness.
However, they were on the back foot in the opening stages as the visitors started the better and got their noses in front on just seven minutes when they kept a corner alive inside the area and skipper Wiles lashed home an unstoppable drive.
Moors could have responded almost immediately when Harris found himself scampering through on goal, but Alfreton keeper George Willis ran from his line to block his shot and the recovered quickly enough to gather the follow-up from Greenfield.
Brad James then followed up his penalty heroics from the weekend with a wonderful save to push Liam Waldock’s ferocious free kick from 20 yards over the bar as the visitors went in search of a second goal.
The Moors keeper was also alert enough to prevent Kennedy Digie from doubling Alfreton’s lead when the ball fell kindly for the defender to send a snapshot on goal which was dealt with by James.
As half time approached, Moors got more of a foothold in the game, and they were level on 43 minutes. Rob Ramshaw threaded a beautiful pass through to Harris, who’s exquisite first touch gave him the opportunity to drive a low finish across Willis and into the net via the base of the far post.
The leveller seemed to lift spirits in the Moors camp, and they came out looking altogether more determined after the break, though Alfreton maintained a threat on the break and former Moors man Jordan Thewlis further tested James with a drive from the edge of the area.
On 60 minutes Moors got in front. Great work from John Lufudu on the edge of the area saw the defender slip a lovely ball through to Greenfield who unleashed a clinical finish across Willis and into the far corner of the net for 2-1.
Harris could even have made it 3-1 three minutes later when he again got in behind the Alfreton defence, but Willis once more darted from his line to close the angle and make the save.
Alfreton threw more and more at Moors at time went on; but Lebrun Mbeka and Ben Pollock were simply outstanding in defence, while Dan Myers also produced his most accomplished performance in a black and white shirt to help Lee’s men through for three points.
